For those who may not know, a Quadriciser is a passive (most common) or active-assisted (considerably less common), automated robotic physical rehabilitation therapy device. It is designed to manipulate the upper and lower body extremities simultaneously similar to how a person walks. The system is activated using a timed session and offers an adjustable set speed providing a unique experience for each individual depending on the capability and situation of the patient. All Quadriciser adjustments are made by an attendant that impacts what is manipulated on the user, who is seated and secured in place.
The Quadriciser is the first and only total body automated therapy system that offers both passive and active therapy,
bi-directional manipulation with multiple seated and lying (reclining) therapeutic positions. The upper body (shoulders, arms, wrists and hands) can all be manipulated in an almost unlimited range of natural motion while the hips, legs, knees, ankles and feet are manipulated in a walking motion.
The Quadriciser was originally developed to help rehabilitate patients who suffered from a stroke or TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) through neuromuscular re-education and muscle strengthening with the goal of either walking again or diminishing the physical effects of the injury.
But then an amazing thing happened when following up with actual users and caregivers.
The following was conveyed to us by teachers, physical therapists, assistants, caregivers (will collectively call the group PTs) at several schools that uses the Quadriciser for their special needs kids and have done so for the last several years. These children are from 4 to 21 years of age who have disabilities ranging from moderate to severe. The reported feedback was exceptionally interesting falling into the ‘who knew?’ category of real world benefits.
None of these findings may amaze or even register with you, the reader, but this author was blown away by the consistent data coming back from the users. The observations were astounding, and I believe potentially far reaching. But that is for another day as investigate the findings in greater detail. Many of these results can be viewed on the Quadriciser YouTube channel. But be sure to bring your tissues. Only the Grinch would not shed a tear after watching the phenomenal transformations.
Disclaimer: These observations were not made by this author nor were the outstanding caregivers or PTs paid any compensation for their independent comments. Every person is different and each person will see different results depending upon their situation. The above strides/accomplishments were made by a majority of students which took place over the course of several school years. Most of the results from the Quadriciser are relatively immediate except for Observation 5, which takes time for the muscles to strengthen. The Quadriciser should only be used under medical supervision and with prior medical approval. The Quadriciser is another tool in the toolbox to aid patients in leading a happy and healthy life.
